Ruth Upjohn Gallery presents INTERPRETING MUSKOKA, a new exhibition by Women’s Art Association of Canada (WAAC) member artist Elena Pope, on display from February 8-18th, 2023.
This exhibition consists of new work from Elena who is set to interpret for us the beauty of Muskoka.
“I borrowed shamelessly from Muskoka woods; its colors and lights peering through the tree cathedral- changing with the time of the day, season and ambient temperature-, the discarded birch bark lying on the ground- adding light and reflecting back the color of the moss, stone and ground-, the majestic stones, presiding royally over their environs, the knotted tree roots marking their territory and…yes, the ever-changing leaves. I became obsessed with discarded birch tree bark that continued to give beauty to environment past its expiration date, so much so that the collected bark became a medium in this exhibit, used in harmony with the acrylic paints, oil sticks and paper collages.”
Elena is a Torontonian who describes herself as an abstract impressionist, starting with intuitive mark making, and responding layer by layer until the canvases becomes the stories that needed to be shared.
Her work has been shared in 2022 through a sold-out solo exhibit at SHA Gallery, Toronto and group exhibits through WAAC.
INTERPRETING MUSKOKA exhibition takes place in the Ruth Upjohn Gallery, inside the beautiful and historical Women’s Art Association of Canada building at 23 Prince Arthur Ave., in Yorkville, Toronto.
From each purchase, 20% of all sales will go to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation and DEBRA Canada.
